Peace Corps Conducts Manglisi “Eco-Camp” For Youth Of Georgia

From July 24 to July 28, 2005, the Peace Corps operated its second of two ecology camps for Georgian teens. The camps educated teens on various environmental topics ranging from livestock management to community building to nature preservation and leadership development. The students heard speakers from all corners of Georgia, as well as from the OSCE and various NGO’s throughout the region. They participated in nature hikes, bird watching, and other outdoor activities.

For four days, the students experienced, many for the first time, an outdoor camping experience. They lived in tents in the woods outside Manglisi and spent time in the Algeti Nature Reserve that bordered the camp. The first week’s camp was for 12 to 14 year olds, and the second week’s camp was for 15 to 17 year olds. Around 20 students attended each camp.

Five student applications for the camp were sent to each Peace Corps volunteer throughout Georgia to ensure regional diversity. Student applications were evaluated based upon the candidates’ environmental awareness and interest in leadership. The Manglisi camps were planned months in advance and received financial support from the US Embassy, the OSCE, and a Peace Corps Partnership Grant.

Gemstone Globe

A Gemstone globe is a decorative globe made from stones. The continents can be stones like jade, turquoise, rose quartz or shells like abalone and mother of pearl. Some of the larger gemstone globes use individual stones to represent each of the united states. These globes are known as "50 state globes".

Medical jewelry includes bracelets, necklaces, watches and even jewelry for women such as anklets. Medical professionals are trained to look for all these types of jewelry, such as ankle bracelets,in the event of an emergency. The engraving should only be attempted in block style, as it is the most readable font.

An ankle bracelet is a great fashion accessory when getting dressed for a night out.
